Sørlandets internasjonale bridgeuke

Enjoy a full week of bridge in sunny Kristiansand - Norway

About the SIB tournament week

SIB (Sørlandet International Bridge Tournament) had its start in 1990, and did immediately establish itself as the largest bridge tournament in Norway (only in the last couple of years surpassed by the Norwegian Bridge Federation's Championships Week). During these past 17 years, we have registered a steady participation of 120-160 pairs in 'Open', 40-55 teams, and 65-80 pairs in 'Mixed'. And a large number of players are coming back, year after year.
The technical direction of SIB has always been of a very high standard, as we hire the best forces available in Norway. And a dedicated bunch of volunteers do their utmost to ensure that the hundreds of bridge players will enjoy a memorable experience.

Tournament programme

SIB2006 can offer you the following tournament programme:

June 24th - June 25th Open pairs (in 2 groups, based on strength)
June 26th - June 27th Teams
June 28th - June 29th Mixed pairs

All cards are computer-dealt. Pairs (Open and Mixed) are played as barometer, with all tables playing the same (2 or 3) boards simultaneously, and the results from the previous round are delivered to your table early in the next round.

In Open Pairs A-group (top-ranked players) 52 pairs will be playing one round (2 boards) against each of the other 51 pairs. Masterpoints decide who will be allowed to enter the A-group, but foreign players will normally be registered here, if they wish to.

In the large Open Pairs B-group (the rest of the field) 70 pairs will be playing 'Swiss Pairs', according to which each pair in every round (34 rounds, 3 boards each) will face the pair with most similar total score (any pair can be met only once, except for the last round). And your table number will reflect your position in the tournament.

In Teams the whole field (35 teams) will be playing 'Swiss Teams' during 12 matches (8 boards each). The principle is the same as above: all teams in every match will be facing the team which is closest to themselves in total score.

In Mixed Pairs 65-80 pairs will also play 'Swiss Pairs' for 30 rounds (3 boards each).

Kristiansand: Communications / Accomodation

Kristiansand, the 'capital' of the South of Norway, can boast the highest recorded yearly hours of sunshine in Norway. This region (Sørlandet) is much visited for its beautiful coastline, and for its famous zoo and activity park.

Kristiansand Airport (Kjevik) is connected to the international air traffic network via Oslo Airport (Gardermoen) and via Copenhagen (Kastrup). Modern car ferries connect the region with Denmark (Hirtshals), Sweden (Gothenburg) and Britain (Newcastle).

For accomodation and general information about the region we recommend that you try the following web pages: www.sorlandet.com (in Norwegian/English/German)
